Ben Howard and DJ Daddy G (Massive Attack) to headline Greenaway Pro 2013
After widespread anticipation, non-profit Cornish festival Greenaway Pro has announced that double Brit Award singer-songwriter Ben Howard and the legendary DJ Daddy G, part of Bristol duo Massive Attack will be headlining the main Greenaway Pro stage on Saturday 21st September.

September 17th sees the highly anticipated return of Greenaway Pro, a four day surf, music and arts festival created in 2009 as a tribute to local surfer, lifeguard and artist Tom Greenaway. The four day non-profit Cornish festival that brings together surfing, live music, arts and friendship starts with a three day surf contest and culminates in an explosive evening of live music offering over 13 hours of non- stop musical talent.
With the same ethos as previous years of generosity and celebration, Greenaway Pro promises a warm spirit of creative talent and community, fuelled by musicians, artists, film-makers and surfers whom are all drawn together in memory of Tom.
The surf comp takes place from 17th to 19th September on Porthmeor Beach, St. Ives with categories including pro, no-pro, women, Masters, longboard, bodyboard, under 18s, . With a philosophy of inclusivity, surfers of all levels are encouraged to take part with sponsorship opportunities offered for the top four non-pros as well as the biggest cash prizes in the country for a domestic surf comp.
For non-surfers, the event offers a visual feast with the longboard category in particular showing the artistic grace and style that goes into riding waves. Surfers will show agility, strength and poise and visitors can enjoy a vibrant and colourful atmosphere, typical of Cornish surfing communities. For 2013, some of Europe’s finest surfers will take to the water with confirmed entries from pro surfers Jayce Robinson, Oli Adams, Tom Lowe, Fergal Smith, James Parry and Sam Bleakly.
Friday 20th September at St. Ives Cinema will provide an intimate night of acoustic music and short films curated by iconic surf photographer Mickey Smith, director of multi-award winning short video ‘Dark Side of the Lens’, The evening will host the premier of Smith’s latest short film along with performances from some of the nation’s highest acclaimed singer songwriters including To Kill A King and Rokshan Heydari
The festival will reach its climax on Saturday 21st September at the Sandsifter, Hayle with an all-out party of live music and DJ’s until the early hours of the morning. Devon surfer and singer-songwriter Ben Howard who played the Pyramid Stage at Glastonbury earlier this summer will bring his autobiographical acoustics to the Cornish coast complemented by dance music legend Daddy G (Massive Attack) who helped pioneered the laid-back sound of trip-hop with
Massive Attack, known for their cinematic fusion of hip-hop rhythms, soulful melodies and dub grooves. Other acts include Catfish and the Bottlemen and Brother and Bones.
New for 2013 is online comp ‘Wave of the winter’, encouraging body boarders to upload a video of their best wave in the UK or Ireland for the chance to win one year’s sponsorship and a £500 cash prize. Videos can be viewed here.

It’s 2013 and we’re back!

The Greenaway Pro  is a surf contest with all your friends, it is coffee in the morning and paella on the beach, it is beautiful music and artistic film, it is the party of the summer. The Greenaway Pro is whispered about in West Cornwall, the whispers are spreading, the party is growing. It is community, it is sustainability, it is friendship.

This year the Greenaway Pro is back and with it comes one of the biggest prize purses in British surfing along with internationally renowned musicians, athletically ambitious surfers and the wildest slice of Cornish youth, it’s all for charity and it’s going to be rad…

No justice

There’s a certain beauty in destruction. Wrangler’s new campaign features stunt men and women all photographed by the amazing Cass Bird.
